Kailash Manasarover
(The Navel of the Earth)
A 22,028 foot rock pyramid where world’s four ancient religions Hindus, Buddhists, Jain's, and Bonpo's has there sacred and strong beliefs. Hindus worship this place kailash as the throne of “Lord Shiva” Buddhists as “Kang Rinpoche” (the precious snow mountain), the Jain's worship this place as the “Mt. Astapada” where the founder of this religion “Lord Rishabhnath” gained his spiritual liberation, for Bonpos is the “Nine storey Swastika Mountain” (the mystical soul of the region). In another word pilgrims of four releigions takes this rock pyramid as the throne of the gods and the Naval of the earth. Beside these pilgrims, many people across the world travel here to explore Kailash. In 1812 William Moorcroft made the British discovery of Manasarover. Visitor have mixed motivation for coming to this region. Swede Sven Hedin on his expedition in 1970 has discovered the sources of the indus river and clarified the sources of the indus, Brahmaputra, Sutlej and Karnali. All theses rivers had their sources in the small corner of western Tibet “Mt. Meru” from it’s summit are said to flow four great rivers through Asia. One Japanese Buddhist monk Ekai Kawaguchi, who studied Tibet and passed himself off as Chinese in order to make the pilgrimage to kailash & Manasarover in 1900. Almost half century later Lama Anagarika Govinda a Bolivian German Buddhist monk whose way of the white clouds is
an esoteric account of 1948 sojourn in the Kailash region.
The unquestioned experts of Kailash & Manasarover was the energetic Indian Swami Pranavanda, who between 1928-1949 made 25 circuits of the mountain and wrote a pilgrims guidebook crammed with mixture of scientific and spiritual observations. Lake mansarovar is situ ated between

Mt. Kailash are absolved of there sins through generations. Maphan Tso (Unconquerable lake) is another name given by the Tibetan’s. Traveling to Kailash is much easier from Nepal than that of India. From India it takes almost 25 days (Delhi-Kailash-Delhi). From Delhi it takes around 3 days to reach Darchula (Mungati) and has to trek about 4 days to reach the indo-China border. Where as from Nepal it takes 14 days (Kathmandu-Kailash-Kathmandu). All the way from Kathmandu to Kailash base camp journey is by tourist coach & jeeps.
